What is your mental health status? We’re going to explore:

  • What is mental wealth?

  • Why it matters?

  • How can you increase your mental wealth?

But first, I’ll quickly introduce myself.

I’m Heather. I’m a mental health and well-being coach certified in Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), Emotional Freedom Technique (ETF or Tapping), TIME Technique, Clinical Hypnosis, Life and Success Coaching, Human Design, and Astrology. I have a marketing degree and am pursuing my Master's in Counselling Psychology.

I am best at helping people remodel their minds and break cycles and patterns so they can create successful, powerful, and fulfilling lives.

I wanted to share some of my story because I haven’t done so before, and people are often surprised. Who I am now is vastly different from who I have been. At my rock bottom moment, I decided I needed to do something if I wanted something better for myself. I decided to be my life preserver.

I had tried therapy, self-help books, and the lot before, but nothing really made a difference. And that’s because nothing will work until you’re ready to decide something will.

I aligned with and felt most impacted by a blend of psychology, subconscious work, somatic work, human design, and astrology. I believe in it so much that I’ve made it my life’s work.

I am passionate about helping people take responsibility for changing their lives and doing something about it.

I’m here to help you think, feel, and live better.

Ok, Let’s get into it.

What is Mental Wealth?

Mental Wealth originated from The Foresight Project on Mental Capital and Wellbeing by the UK Government Office for Science. They were looking for ways to gain insight into the development of mental capital and well-being across an individual's lifespan to see what potential opportunities and challenges people face and how these relate to the country's economic status.

There are a couple of terms we have to know before we move forward:

Mental Captial is a person’s cognitive and emotional resources. So essentially, this is your emotional intelligence, ability to learn, and ability to think and understand. Your mental capital is a spectrum that changes throughout your life and can determine things like job performance and complexity, quality of life, quality of relationships, and ability to manage stress.

Mental Well-being is a dynamic state where people can develop their potential, work productively, and effectively utilize their mental capital. This includes your cognitive and emotional wellness, self-efficacy, hope, optimism, resiliency, social norms and networks influencing you, ability to trust yourself and others, and community involvement. This spectrum fluctuates over time and can indicate your life satisfaction, quality of life, mental health status, and human functioning. It uses measures of life satisfaction, the meaning of life, and the positive or negative impact on and from those around you.

Mental Wealth measures one’s mental, financial, and career health, social systems, and physical health.

Spoiler alert: as it turns out, when people live in nurturing and empowering environments that prioritize development in their mind, body, and emotional regulation, everyone does better.

Why Does Mental Wealth Matter?

Understanding your mental wealth status helps you see how all the areas of your life are interconnected, how to troubleshoot where the points or areas for improvement are, how to address them, AND the impact you will experience.

It breaks down how external factors such as work environment, community, and social groups impact you, reminding you that you exist as an external factor for others. Most importantly, it helps you see the patterns and cycles that are hurting you and holding you back from creating the life you want and achieving your goals, which means you can break them.

So if you’re doing your best to keep your side of the street clean, you will inevitably positively impact the people around you. Essentially, as you raise your mental wealth, you’re helping others increase theirs as well.

We’re starting to hear mental health professionals study and discuss these topics, but it’s not done in this cohesive way. This framework is beautiful and empowering, and we can see its scalability.

It can sometimes be daunting because the world is such a dumpster fire, and it can feel exhausting and almost impossible to take care of ourselves, let alone feel like we’re making a sort of change on a societal or global level. It’s easy to forget that YOU make a difference and make the biggest impact when you focus on yourself first and foremost. It seems counterintuitive. We all know the airplane air mask analogy; you’ve heard me say it, and you’ve heard me say that the best way to care for others is to pour into them from your overflow.

The Mental Wealth framework refuses to let us forget that.

What Can Increasing Your Mental Wealth Help You With?

I'm glad you asked! Ultimately, it will help you achieve your goals by clarifying your assets, changes that need to be made, and what you need to bring in to diversify your portfolio. The ultimate goal with mental wealth is to create a fulfilling life. So that may look like:

  • Become a better and more effective leader.

  • Improve your romantic relationships, attract healthier relationships, or embrace whatever relationship status you desire.

  • Develop an abundance mindset.

  • Improve your relationship with yourself and your body.

  • Improve your money mindset.

  • Increase your confidence.

  • Trust yourself and trust that things always work out, which also helps to create a strong sense of peace and sexy indifference(a term from Jason Bateman).

  • It has the potential to create whatever changes you want in your life; there is no limit to what you can do unless you decide there is.

How You Can Increase Your Mental Wealth:

The main factors you want to focus on are your thoughts, behaviours, emotions, physical being (diet, exercise, injury, etc.), and social and cultural influences.

Let’s break down your approach to increasing your mental wealth and six steps to get started right now:

  • Set SMART Goals

  • Develop a growth mindset

  • Practice self-compassion

  • Engage in meaningful conversations

  • Engage in therapeutic activities like mindfulness, coaching, exercise

  • Bring awareness and curiosity to your internal and external influencing factors, but don’t judge them

Start by:

  1. Clarifying your values

  2. Become an avid learner

  3. Daily practice of mindfulness and meditation

  4. Develop and be consistent with healthy, supportive habits

  5. Curate your circle of influence

  6. Choose to live from gratitude.
